As you may know, we’ve been planning a USKK symposium to honor Sensei Koeppel and carry on the tradition he started. This is our first since Sensei’s passing, so I thought it appropriate to invite Hanshi Dan Smith, one of Sensei’s old karate friends, as our featured presenter. And we’re starting a new tradition by having some of our own longtime friends present at the symposium, to share their karate knowledge and experience.
We plan to keep the tradition going by inviting a similar lineup of presenters each year. As for the schedule, we decided to have only one presenter session at a time, so participants won’t have to miss out on one session to attend another. We picked the presenters for a variety of reasons, and omitted no one by design. If there is anyone you felt should be included but isn’t on the list this year, please let us know and we’ll consider them for next year.
With the help of Lucky Phillips and Darrin McGowan, everything has come together in what, we believe, will be a very enjoyable and informative weekend. I will be hosting the event in Cincinnati and I welcome all of you to come and participate. We have a great venue secured for the symposium with lots of room to spare, and we’ll be gathering at a different spot each evening for casual food and drink. My yudansha-business-partners and the other members of our dojo are excited to welcome you and help make your visit a memorable one.
The links to the flier and registration form are below. You can also find them posted at www.uskk.org. All traditional karate styles are welcome to attend, and the Symposium is for ages 12 and up. Feel free to forward this information to students and friends in karate, and share the flier and registration form in your karate network.
Thank you! Hope to see you there!
Yours in Karate-do, David Hamann, Sensei- Kosho School of Karate
